Although I think the way that different bits of the Tour test different skills is something you don't like?

The basic thing you have to get your head around is that *each stage of the Tour is a separate race*.

So winning a stage is winning a race.

Yes there are also prizes for overall stuff - like the yellow jersey - and that's all very interesting.

But the time trial today is also a race of its own. As are each stage.
