he was given a trial first in preseason and he has scored and created goals.

As long as he is cheap I don't see the problem - it is only a 1 year contract so if he wants to stick around he can't go into 'lazy' mode, and no-one surely can have any doubt that the bloke has talent and is capable of a flash of inspiration (he might not be as fit as he sort-of was but the skill should still be there).

Doubt he is being pencilled in as regular starter but as a squad player/sub he ought to be able to do a useful job.
