Just asked my Motherwell supporting colleague in Scotland what Stephen Hughes is like

Here's a transcript of his response...

Worth 7k a week, no. He had a good first year, creative midfielder, played a bit far back to make a great impact, but I suppose that's manager's instructions.
Can get bullied out of a game, happened a couple of times against the bigger teams last year.
But in saying all that he was our best midfielder when we played a good passing game. He's perhaps a bit lightweight.
He's a local Motherwell lad and I think he would have stayed as his family are settled and his wife at uni up here, but we can't afford that kind of money.
