Just that they're not there to in the overall race - that is, the yellow jersey.
They're there to win stages. Each stage is a race of its own - a really high quality race, with massive media coverage, against the best riders in the world.
So to win 4 stages - and to do it 2 years running - well that's just amazing.
(In contrast, the guys who're trying to win the yellow jersey - this year Alberto Contador and Lance Armstrong, at the moment - aren't interested in winning stages, really. That's one of the things that makes the Tour fascinating - it's lots of sporting competitions in one, really.)
