I think you've just had the ultimate Oasis gig experience really. Some bands can be defined by what the atmopshere is like though.

When I saw The Libertines a couple of times, you could smell solvents, weed and see the poppers passed around and a bottle of something would be placed in your hand at some point before they came on.
