It's more the mentality of the manchester stereotype. Go and see any band

that are manc, happy monday etc influenced, and you'll get that sort of crowd

eg, Sunshine Undergrounds latest tour, stories of fights and it kicking off at shows. Even the one I went to had the tension of something about to happen

See The Twang, Stone Roses tribute acts etc
