I was wondering just the same thing a little while ago

And I was sad enough to look on the Wimbledon website for any clue. The boss bloke said something like "... and if the roof needs closing due to rain, then the covers will also come on for a period".

Which to my untrained eye suggests there are reasons other than rain to close it.

Cant imagine they'd do it mid-match, though. And im not entirely sure they can have the lights on with out having the roof on. Prob would be damp air problems as well, that late at night without it being closed
