So haven't been in the situation.

Distressingly the girl I failed to sleep with in Yeovil told me later she'd been dying for me to suggest it. Scarred me for some years as she was gorgeous (I thought beyond my scope) but I found out when I was with someone else (and Jessica Alba aside I don't actually do the adultery thing)
