How *invasive* is FB?

Over the last couple of days I have a 'recommended friend' who is a customer I did some work for about 18 months ago.

We have no friends in common and she doesn't know anyone I know.

How did she crop up in my recommended friends list?

I use my work email address in my profile - does it 'scan' that do you think?
