Yeah but

Like I said, a lot of it has.

A lot of it is now 'regulated' much in the same way as normal medicine too.

The CAM label is still used, I guess, to distinguish it from, pharmacological medicine.

There is no doubt that some herbal remedies do work as anyone who has used arnica on their kids bruises will attest.

There is also no doubt that it might also make you very ill if misused, just like conventional medicine can.

It is also telling that the rise of alternative medicine was a direct consequence of the failings of mainstream medicine in the 50s and 60s e.g. thalidomide which caused people to look elsewhere.

Finally, the 'placebo effect' is very much in line with some CAM approaches to healing which see the mind as a key part of the healing process. If you think about it is the same effect - the person believeing something can make them better. Of course 'science' doesn't understand this yet so of course it can't be true.

Now I really must take those herbs...
