It's common for players to be informed of interest in them either by their representative(s) or the club they are contracted to.

Basically, if a player is subject to interest from another club, the club won't just reject it without first consulting the player.

Although, at the end of the day, the club does hold the power as to whether they do ultimately accept or decline an offer, but the player isn't cut out of the equation totally.
