She wanted to go to the ballet and I expressed a reluctance. She of course demanded detailed reasons, which I was unable to provide to her satisfaction. Then she attempted a football analogy:
"it's like I don't like football; but if you wanted to go to the football with me I'd go"

"Ah, but I wouldn't invite you to the football"
