Macnerd help required purlease

how the ottoson foxtrotting ding dang doo do i set up my email on a macbook as it is asking for:

"account type" (choice of POP/IMAP or Exchange???and then "description" ????

I've tried the obvious; "an email account" but that dunt seem to work (even with a swear word added in for emphasis).

and WTF is "incoming mail server" when it's at home in it's velvet smoking jacket?
