If you were going to teach yourself, maybe get some advice on line

diagrams etc. Focus on one part of the technique for a week, and that part only (ie, on front crawl, you could stroke straight armed and with your head down, and after 3-4 sessions, you'd learn the benefit of keeping your shoulders stlil, and then you'd begin to bend your arms again, and your shoulders and head would naturally stop moving around. in theory anyway)

Can't think of many ways without someone coaching you
