i) Why was Hunter S. 'Gonzo' Thompson so-nicknamed?

ii) Was anyone just watching MOTD2 and the highlights of the Bolton-Everton match? If so, did you see the intentional blocking of the Everton goalkeeper before a late Bolton free-kick? This in itself wasn't surprising, but the fact that it was a free-kick that was clearly going to be aimed at goal was, as in my experience the goalkeeper is normally left to set the wall/ready himself for a save etc. Is this another, new step towards complete abandonment of any principles of decency in the game of football, or just my misinterpretation of the situation?
