Scrimmage and I would like to give our views on today's game.
GREEN - 6 Had virtually nothing to do today. Did well to "save" the penalty but unfortunately it's a funny old rule that allows a player of one side to infringe and for the other side to be penalised as a result.
COLIN - 6 Solid game.
FLEMING - 5 Ok on crosses but too slow against players who control the ball on the ground. Gave away the penalty although harsh.
SHACKELL - 8 Excellent performance.
CHARLTON - 6 Solid
MARNEY - 1 And that's for turning up! Didn't attempt to take on and beat his man and his crosses were aimed at his friend the invisible giraffe at the back of the box ALL game!
HUGHES - n/s Injured early on
SAFRI - 7 Good commitment but not the answer to our creative needs
BRENNAN - 6 Decent first half but faded in the second probably due to lack of match fitness.
ASHTON - 5 Deano is definitely out of sorts.
Didn't help that he had no quality service but really should have scored when clean through in the first half.
HUCKERBY - 6 Routinely double marked. Had a great shot in the first half well saved but seems to have lost a yard of pace.
SUBS -
-------
JARRETT - 7 Played well, passed the ball about and had attempts at goal.
McKENZIE - 6 Usual commitment and usual poor first touch.
THORNE - 7 Looked like he had some idea and was probably the best of the forwards today.
GENERAL COMMENT
-------------------------
Overall City deserved a point although Saints could have been 4-0 up before we got into the game. First half especially there was far too much hoofing and our play was both slow in the build up and far too predictable. Man mark Huckerby and Ashton and we have nothing to offer as a threat. Its going to be a long and difficult season unless we improve rapidly.
It is ridiculous that a squad of this quality on paper is struggling so badly.
