The 50s was the era of manly handshakes for a ghoul celebration, not mass buggering each other by the corner flag. The era of the short back and sides all around, not gelled up quiffs and Alice bands. The era of sharing a brown Ford Anglia to get to training, not writing off Ferraris and parking Bentleys in disabled spaces. The era of going home to your missus, not shagging groupies in a vat of baby oil at the team hotel while your mates video it and post it on the web. The era of toughing it out and pretending your weren't hurt, not writhing around like a snake with ADHD and clutching your face after a ball hit you in the shins.

And it was an era when you gave 100%, no more no less, knowing that that was all a man could give,
