I do see your point though, but Gunn was hamstrung in how he could deal with it.
Couldn't replace them either from the squad or loons really.
He might have been able to replace them with rubbish players in more natural positions, but would it have made any real difference?

Any way, I largely agree. I don't see Gunn as the answer.
