... Never done this before, so here goes ...
GREEN - 7. Decent performance, commanded his area well and was very unlucky to have his first-ever penalty save scrubbed. Still needs to learn when to release the ball quickly and when to slow things down, though.
COLIN - 6. Looked passable going forward, occasionally played a little too slowly, relatively promising though.
CHARLTON - 5. Poor.
FLEMING - 6. Too slow these days.
SHACKELL - 6. Competent.
SAFRI - 8. Tackled very well, passed to his own team more than anybody else with a good mix of short and long passes. Covered a lot of ground, too.
MARNEY - 5. Often out of position, and his crossing was below par. Disappointing with many corners.
HUGHES - 6. Didn't last very long, added little to the midfield but didn't really do much wrong.
ASHTON - 6. Some nice touches and good control, but still not the player of last season. Could use more support from midfield, rather than just getting the ball kicked long at him.
HUCKERBY - 7. Starting to look like his old self in flashes - one or two nice runs and crosses. Spent too much drifting far left though.
BRENNAN - 7. Played well going forward, although often found himself having to cut inside as Hucks had drifted wide.
SUBS:
JARRETT - 5. Tried very little of any ambition and occasionally conceded possession doing something very simple. Ineffectual.
THORNE - 5. Didn't get to do anything.
McKENZIE - 6. Got involved, better first touch than usual, but saw little of the Southampton goal.
