Sony LCD - minimum 40 inch unless you have a small sitting room

I have the W4000 and it's superb - was the top rated LCD when I bought it - great picture & sound. It's been superceded by the W4500 (I think) and I think there's a new one on the way. The reason to go 1080p is to get the full benefit from HD. Higher the refresh rate (the Hz rating) the better fast moving sports like football will be although over 100Hz it's debatable whether you'll notice the difference.

Plasma was always historically better than LCD, but the gap is all but gone now and LCDs are generally cheaper. Next big leap will be OLED displays, but that's several years off.
