First, got in the stadium about 20mins before kick off. It was filling up nicely. The bar?a fans singing and shouting and nothing from Chelski. There was a fair few of them in there. 5 mins before the players came out they were asked on the tannoy to raise their free flags and cheer on their team. Doesn't it say something about a set of fans that even on one of the biggest nights in their history, they can't even create a proper atmosphere without the help of some cheaply made token flags. Big club? Get f**ked! So the mongs start their waving when the players came out and promptly put their flags back down after a couple of mins. Game starts and the crowd are silent, edgy even.
Bar?a started as they meant to go on, lots of possession, fluid passing and loads of noise from the fans. Chelski looked like settling in for another night of anti-football when, in my opinion, they struck with a bit of a fluke from Essien. It looked like it rolled off his shin to me but then I've only seen it once. Then the cockernee wideboys start with their songs, Chewlsea! Chewlsea! Chewlsea! Bar?a fans kept singing and ignoring the taunts from all those die hard, I've supported Chelsea since 2005 supporters. The Bar?a fans concentrated on backing the team, not engaging in banter with the Chelskis. So as expected after their goal, they revert to anti-football with the odd attack on the break.
One of the most memorable for me was the Malouda incident which I was sat (stood) right in front of, right on the line. I was closer than the ref. If you ask me it was shirt pulling and tugging from both players, just as bad as each other and then Malouda fell as if he'd been shot in the face. Great dive, 9 on the scorecard! It looked to me like it was right on the line but momentum carried them in the box. Really it was not a foul as they were both as bad as each other. A penalty would have been very very harsh. Chelski "supporters" cried and moaned, Terry gave his usual calm and restrained opinion to the ref and then play resumed.
Chelski were on edge after that, particularly the fans and the more Bar?a played the ball around keeping possession the worse it got. I think the players knew this was working and kept this tactic up. The Chelski players looked frustrated. Then half time came. Chelski fans disappeared for their cocktails and prawn sandwiches and the stadium looked bare.
Second half got underway and more and more Barca continued to press. There was nothing in the way of shots but keeping the possession was winding everyone up. Xavi was threading the odd ball through just teasing Chelski a bit. Messi took two players out of the game for the whole time just by being there and you could see that Bar?a had the confidence to slowly turn the screw and gradually build up the pressure. Then we got the Drogba penalty claim. I can't comment too much as it was down the other end but it looked like Drogba was looking for the pen. He turned inside Abidal ,I think, and from that moment his focus was not on a shot but on holding onto the ball to try and draw a foul. Then the ball ran away slightly and he jumped on top of it trying to grab it with his hands. Again I'm not sure how clear cut it was as I was at the other end but Drogba's reputation did him no favours if you ask me.
Then we have the Abidal sending off which looked a bit dubious but I couldn't really see it. It looked harsh but if he did foul Anelka then he was the last man so the ref had no option. I have a sneaking suspicion that Anelka tripped over his own feet but I'll look again at the highlights that I've recorded.
Pique's handball was without doubt handball, I think the whole ground could see that and it made me laugh that the ref didn't give it. That's karma for the Henry pen at the Camp Nou.
While all this was going on the Chelski fans were still quiet, nervous even as they could see Bar?a getting ever closer. Guardiola was true to his word and made some attacking changes for the last 10mins or so and it worked, the pressure built on Chelski and you could feel that something might happen. Having watched Bar?a on many many occasions this season it would take a special team to stop them scoring at least once and special Chelski are not.
The 90th min clocked over and it was nervy. The Chelski fans started singing Adios! Adios! Adios! which is an insult in itself to the Catalans. Then in one of the most brilliant moments I've ever experienced at a match, Chelski fail to clear and Iniesta (probably player of the season for Bar?a) cracks it in over Cech and runs over right in front of us to celebrate. Brilliant, f**king brilliant! The whole ground fell silent once more except for the Bar?a fans. I think the whole bench ran up to celebrate too!
What made it sweeter was yet another cry for a penalty from the Chelskis, it was getting boring now and desperate. Ironically it was Chelski's hardman German who made the claim and then chased the ref along the pitch like a pathetic little brat his is. The same Michael Ballack who would have stopped Iniesta's shot going in if he hadn't of ducked out of the way. By this point I didn't know or care if it was a penalty or not, it wasn't given so it didn't matter. Adeu! Adeu! Adeu! chanted the Bar?a fans!
When the final whistle went we were too busy celebrating to notice at first what was happening on the pitch. But when I did turn around two things stood out for me. Firstly bearing in mind we are in the middle of a respect campaign, England's leader, the captain in a moment of disgrace baiting the ref, effing and blinding like the c**t that he is. He should be stripped of his captaincy for that. Also Drogba who had to be held back in the end who I believe made gestures to the cameras too was also a disgrace. The whole Chelski team were behaving like brats. They got what they and their fans deserve. Both just as good as each other. I've never seen such a display of petulance and such bad losers as them lot. After it died down a bit you could see Terry crying again. Fantastic! We saw Abramovich walking across the pitch towards the tunnel looking miserable. I wonder how long before he's bored and pulls out of the club, not long now I think! A couple of Chelski youth waited for a tear up near Fulham Broadway after the game but not much else really happened. Off into the city we went for a few drinks.
So overall not a particularly amazing display of football by Bar?a but they did what they had too. Chelski just showed why everyone hates them and what a bunch of tossers both the players and fans are. I only wish I could have listened to 606 last night. I bet Cuntjoy was blubbing his mockney face off.
One last little thing,
