still got one of theose old 3G ipod models (the one where the touch buttons light up "red" when you touch them) - and it came with a dock, so bought a cheapo jackplug to banana plug cable from tandy and it sits on top of my stereo - plugged it into the DAT input and it sounds great, whilst re-charging! all for under a tenner!
