If they appoint Gunn

At what point do we stop thinking "my God they're clueless", and start wondering whether it's not all part of obsessively creating the club in Mrs Wynn Jones' image? By which I mean we appoint someone nice rather than any good - and niceness is actually deemed more important than being any good? Much more, in fact? And we also get rid of anyone on the board who challenges her and said image?

Not, incidentally, that I'm quite sold on the idea that Gunny's quite as nice as people think anyway. I've detected a serious ego and ruthless/selfish streak on his part over the last few days, not to mention an apparent lack of self-awareness which is, well, the spitting image of Delia's. Nothing unusual in that, of course - but no wonder they get on well. And that they get on well seems to be the key to all this.
