Rivals in race for Clinton

Norwich City target Clinton Morrison is expected to spend the weekend mulling over offers from other clubs before deciding whether he wants to move to Carrow Road in a ?2m deal.

The Birmingham striker travelled to Norfolk on Thursday for what were believed to be a positive round of talks - but he left without putting pen to paper.

Morrison is believed to have told the Canaries that he also planned to meet his former club Crystal Palace before coming to a decision, while Southampton boss Harry Redknapp has also expressed an interest in the 26-year-old Republic of Ireland frontman.

As the only club to have met Birmingham's asking price, Norwich remain in pole position to land the player and remain hopeful of making a positive announcement on Monday morning. But it's far from being a done deal - and it remains to be seen what would happen if either of the two rival clubs matched the Canaries' offer.

Southampton appear to have baulked at the asking price, but Palace might just be prepared to stump up the necessary cash to bring in a new partner for Andy Johnson - even though relations with Birmingham are still at a low ebb following Steve Bruce's controversial decision to walk out on the club four years ago.

There was no word on any fresh developments last night - but City manager Nigel Worthington clearly faces the prospect of an anxious weekend before discovering whether his latest spectacular transfer swoop aenscesu.
