season before that, with the (very) occasional decent performance. He was basically taking the piss. He's not the Messiah, he's a very naughty boy, and Roeder (and Grant until he bottled it) saw through him. Very talented, but didn't give a monkey's. Quickly (after a season and a half) became a one-trick pony - pass me the ball to my feet on the halfway line, wide right, then I'll run at three defenders while I'm trying to cut in on my right foot: all without looking up. And don't expect me to pass the ball - of course, I'll lose it 19 times out 20 but, hey, I'm Darren Huckerby.
Straight enough?
