The problem with Internet communication is that it's so inhuman - all you have is text - no facial expression, no tone of voice, no real conscious feeling that the person you're talking to is "real" (and quite often they aren't, it seems). So it's incredibly easy to talk to them in a way you wouldn't normally. But for the same reason it's relatively easy to brush it aside ...
... and of course if you do meet, you can reproach them for it and they'll probably apologise, and you can move on from there. I see your point, though.
