replacing Carney with Lappin wouldn't have made any difference

because Carney was inexplicably being played out of position on the right. We needed width and since he is very left footed he should have been playing on the left (Lappin on the right would have been just as ineffective).

For all the flack aimed at Carney (and obviously he was not very good) it should in fairness be pointed out that:

1. there were lots of players no better, most of whom did not have the partial excuse of being played out of position
2. as in previous games where he has taken stick, we actually looked a lot worse when he went off (we bought Luke Daley on again, despite the fact that in all his brief appearances this season he has never looked like anything other than some poor sod who has been dragged out of the crowd and stuck on the pitch)
