Betfair help please...

just looked at betfair for the first time and its bloody confusing.

I thought to lay something was to bet that it wont happen. Yet the odds to lay watford being relegated are 84/1 so to bet that they will not get relegated seems to be odds of 84/1 what am i getting wrong here? this seems stupid.
