Taking advantage of tax reliefs is legal. So - when I pay money into pension, I can deduct it from my income for tax liability up to a certain limit. That's not theft - it's HMG allowing me not to pay tax on a portion of my income.
Tax avoidance (as opposed to evasion) is looking aggressively for ways to maximise the reliefs that you can legitimately claim. The whole point about it is that it's legal (provided it's done properly).
I've never bothered, seeing 40% tax as just a part of the social contract. But I might start now because to give 50p of every pound I earn to these tossers for these purposes is just unbearable.
I'm probably all mouth and trousers on this, I bet I'll never actually get round to doing anything about it. But I'm really pissed off.
