It depends what you want from a phone

I've been very happy with my iPhone and with the new 3.0 software it gets most of the missing features the doubters have been holding against it.

If I were you I'd wait a few months as Apple are 99% sure to unveil a new iPhone at their developer conference in June.

As for the size then this simply comes down to how much music and video you want to store on the phone at any one time.
