The whole point is when its your turn to make a decision you would prefer having extra info.
Thats why playing in position in poker is so powerful.

As an example we may only need a draw against Reading to stay up.
Obviously it would be stupid in the last 15 mins to push for a win when we dont need it.

Another exmaple may be our GD, avoiding a tonking or losing by x amount of goals is worth knowing.
You might load the bench with defensive players.

Given the choice of two senarios of playing first or second only a retard would choose first.
Maybe its not a huge advanatge but its 100% an edge.
