Alan ? re Anti Virus Plus trojan

We back to the in-laws to check more problems he had with the Anti Virus plus last night. Had a look at the host file on c: - windows-system-32-driver-etc -hosts.

The Trojan had expanded the file from a few lines of text to 80 pages (I cutnpasted into a word doc). There were ?redirects on a number of external mail account addresses including gmail and yahoo which prevented access, although did not cause a problem as his firewall blocked access ? he uses McAfee. Other redirects were to various Russian and Polish sites.

I just replaced the hosts file with a the usual one which has the internal IP address of the PC and he was back up and running.
