Basically, prog is dull dull dull

Somehow it was supposed to be innovative and push the boundaries of rock (and maybe, say, early Pink Floyd and Can did do that) but just ended up with self indulgent fiddling around on a guitar and bass for half an hour.

I don't much care for Jazz (much prefer the Blues) which has - as you note - similar traits, although it could hit the occasional height (eg. Billie Holiday's version of "Strange Fruit")
