Steve Bruce has this afternoon revealed that Blues have agreed a fee with Championship side Norwich for striker Clinton Morrison.
The 26-year-old was on international duty with the Republic of Ireland last night and this morning flew into Stanstead and from there he headed to Norfolk for talks with the Canaries.
Morrison - who also attracted interest from Cardiff City, Southampton and Crystal Palace - has a year to run on his current contract.
Bruce admitted that with a transfer fee of around £2 million on the table, it was a deal that the club couldn't really turn down, particularly as the player could move away at the end of the season for nothing.
"We are facing the prospect of losing someone on a Bosman free transfer or accepting a deal worth close to a couple of million quid," said Bruce.
"I'm aware that I'm losing our fourth striker, but we have two or three players that can play off the front man, if needs be, and I'm quite a fan of that."
Bruce went on to praise Morrison for the contribution he has made to the club since joining from Crystal Palace for a then-record fee of £4.25 million in 2002.
Whilst admitting that the forward has struggled to live up to that price tag, the Blues boss insisted that he would miss the striker if and when he does move away from St. Andrew's.
"He has always played his part and helped us to where we've got," said Bruce.
"He has been great for the club, maybe not as good as we had hoped when we signed him, but I will genuinely miss him.
"The place is a brighter one when Clinton is around and I wish him all the best."
