Yesterday was a really bad day for NCFC but there are still enough games for us to pull ourselves out of this mess. It does require some intelligence on the part of the management however, and there MUST be some team changes for Tuesday and beyond.
Butterworth, Crook et al must have seen enough by now to act. Assuming everyone's fit, 2 changes seem essential to me:
1. Gow in, Cureton drops to the bench.
I think Gow could work well with Cort. He will certainly give the opposition defenders more of a run around than JC, who can still come off the bench for a final blitz if were losing with 15 mins to go.
2. Fotheringham should be dropped altogether. He's simply not a good enough player and I think his "lame duck" captaincy undermines our team spirit at this really critical time. Making him skipper was one of Roeder's worst decisions (and that's saying something). Please God NO, but I've a horrible feeling that Gunn is going to stay loyal to him ("togetherness" and all that ...). I'd be interested to know who the players would vote for as captain. I'd go for Clingan.
Options for LMF are Bertrand or Carey or Patison (- any others?). Can anybody please tell me what's been going on re. Patison? Has he been boozing again or what? The times I saw him earlier this season he was impressive. Surely he can't have "lost it" more than Fozzy has?!
It's going to be tough, but away from home the expectation is off us and I'm hopeful we will get something from QPR. A bit of luck and some decisions in our favour would also help.
