Dario G genuinely ARE named after Crewe's wrinkly manager....

"In September 1997 a local Band hit the big time, Dario G, named after the Crewe manager, reached number 2 in the charts with hit single Sunchyme, selling over 2 million copies, all dedicated to Dario Gradi, who at that time was being hailed as a hero by fans and local press.

"The only reason the song didn't reach number 1, was because of the Princess Diana tribute song - Candle in the wind."

"Dario G, named after the super-hero manager of Crewe Alex, Dario Gradi, release their new single this month. It's sure to be as loved as Mr Gradi himself ... or is it?"

"The driving force behind chart-toppers Dario G was Nantwich-born Paul Spencer. Paul went to Coppenhall School before going on to study at Malbank Sixth Form College and then the London College of Music.

"He then played keyboards with band Monaco before forming Dario G, which was named after Crewe Alex's legendary manager Dario Gradi by the football fan. Dario G took the charts by storm in 1997 with dance floor filler Sunchyme."
