the board may have dipped into their pockets and added that to the transfer fee to get us a better player as the majority of the present balls up over the last 5 years has been of their making.

If they'd have bought the player they were offered for ?1.7m before the start of the Prem season we may have stayed there for a season or two. Unfortunately they wouldn't release the money for him. That was the start as far as I'm concerned.
