I am and always have been opposed to our intervention in Iraq - at the time of the 1st Gulf War when Saddam was invading his neighbours, we had a good case, but the invasion in 2002 and subsequent occupation was indefensable.

Afghanistan is slightly different. The Taliban were and still are terrorists and also sheltered, trained and aided Al Quaeda. Not to mention that over 90% of the world's heroin is produced from Afghan opium. Make no mistake, if the Taliban are allowed to take control again, it would be a nightmare.
