timing is crucial I think

mid morning: settled into desk, cleared in-tray, had first brew of the day, caught up on non-events at CR, too early to start any real work, checked emails etc.

After lunch: No OFFICIAL SMSs to worry about, winding down to go home so not worth starting any work. Need to fill in a bit of space before after lunch coffee break. Needs to be reasonable early to avoid scc/selwyn/ied ideot o'clock.
