Never any doubt

Decision based on purely pragmatic grounds; not a gamble by the board - really no option given the finances of the club (short-term appointment before some money for season tickets comes in); mostly popular decision at time of season-ticket renewal; given Neil Doncaster's denigration of Boothroyd's style outside ground on Saturday and statement that short-list did not correspond with bookies' favourites, it was hardly a surprise; good result against an execrable Barnsley side wasn't the turning point - this was sorted out weeks ago; anyone who dreamed of top names, didn't take into account that they would require a reasonably lengthy contract, some money to spend and some hope of future investment. This was a crisis decision taken by a club in crisis. As such, it was a fair attempt at being realistic.
