Management isn't an exact science
Clubs have appointed managers in the past (Boothroyd at Watford would be an example) who have had little or no managerial experience and they've been a success. Who's to say that won't happen to Gunny?
It's a big risk but given the choice between Roeder and Gunn, I know who I'd rather have.
