No Carrow Road return for Lita when January arrives

10 December 2008

Norwich City fans are going to have to learn to live without Leroy Lita.

The Reading striker agreed to a third month on loan at Carrow Road this week, but come January he's almost certainly heading home, to be put on the market when the January transfer window opens.

Reading manager Steve Coppell needs to maximise his value before he is allowed to leave for nothing next summer when his contract expires.

And that means he won't be here in the new year.

"I don't think that's a possibility," admitted City boss Glenn Roeder.

"His contract's running out, which everybody knows. You have to be fair - I think loans are two-way favours.

"They've done us a great favour, but we return that favour by playing him, getting him match fit and in the shop window.

"So if Steve Coppell needed him back tomorrow, which I hope he doesn't, he's going to get a fit player back, a motivated player, because the guy's in-form and is scoring goals and looking dangerous.

"But at the moment we just have to take a game at a time and hopefully we get another four good performances and games out of him where we collect points and then we will see what happens at the end of December."

John Kennedy is due back at Celtic, but Roeder has yet to talk to their manager, Gordon Strachan.

"Again we are a few weeks away from that - I'm sure John himself wouldn't want to return to Scottish reserve team football," he said.

Elliott Omozusi is here for the season - unless Fulham boss Roy Hodgson decides to recall him - and he has the first seven days of January to make that decision.

"Most clubs ask for this facility, which is the right thing to do, and you can't really refuse this because at the end of the day it's their player," Roeder added.

"Roy asked for a one-week window in the first week of January so that's a seven-day period where they technically can take him back."
