Thoughts on today

I am, as many will know, not a fan of Roeder. However, today I thought we were excellent in many regards.

Marshall is a very good keeper, though still not the best on crosses. Omozusi played very well at centre back and used his pace effectively on a number of occasions, I thought, making up for Doc's poor positional play. I'm afraid that although he caught the eye with some great blocks for me the Doc is out of position too often, is too slow and poses no attacking threat at set pieces. He's not as bad as he was a couple of years ago but not really good enough and I prefer Kennedy.

I thought both full backs were average, especially in terms of distribution, and I'd still like to see Drury on the left.

Clingan was outstanding as, for much of the game, was Pattison who is in the best run of form he's had for us, I reckon. I thought Croft had a good game but, much as I like Bell as a player, I thought he was out of position on the left and we could all see how predictable it is that he will come inside onto his right foot.

Lita was absolutel;y superb, I thought, and put the lie to the fact that he doesn't really care. I just hope he was trying to impress to get a full-time contract with us and not with a Prem club as he knew he was on live telly. He was impressive in all areas of his game, as a target, closing down, some fantastic one touch lay offs to bring others in etc. And Hoolahan played well, too.

What encouraged me also was the commitment. I saw no signs taht Roeder had lost the dressing room or that there was no spirit. I know a derby at home is different from a wet Wednesday at Watford but I was encouraged.

I have found fault with Roeder and I find him arrogant and cannot explain some of his terrible loans (Troy, Oj etc) but he was certainly passionate today and at times the football we played was very good. If we can be hard to beat away in the next month he might silence a few critics like me after all.
