Strange hybrid is exactly right

My Dad is a Scot who moved to Norfolk in 1965, and is thus a foreigner.

Perhaps as a result, I have never really felt like a Norfolk insider, despite growing up there and going to school in Norwich. I also spent many holidays in Scotland as a child and now spend my own summers there. But I have a huge residual affection for Norfolk; I sometimes weekend there, I shoot there, I go to the footy as much as I can there, I take my children on trips to Norwich.

I suppose, thinking about it, that my "heritage" feelings are entirely Scottish rather than Norfolk. A strange hybrid, as you perceptively remark.
