Hughes...warning, a defence

Hughes is not a playmaker, and never pretended to be. The FACT is that he did everything last night that we moaned about Holt for not doing last season and the season before.

Whereas Holt stood off, Hughes flew into tackles, winning a decent proportion of them. His passing at times was fine, indeed better than Holt's.

He let himself down later in the second half with a succession woeful passes...but then so did all the others.

He really did not have THAT bad a game - he was average.

I really can't understand how people can give him so much stick on the evidence of 2 performances when he wasn't playing alongside safri from the start.

As long as Saf starts on Saturday I really don't mind who plays alongside him - in the lon tewrm i'd probably favour jarrett, but he didn't look match fit last night, whereas Hughes ran his heart out.

Yes, I'd rather have koumas or someone of his ilk alongside safri than either of them, but until worthy spends the francis cash (or unless) then we don't have that option.
