Halloween: Yet another Americanism tradition crossed the pond. Pumpkin lanterns were a byproduct of eating the pumpkin flesh.

So why has it been bastardized by the very fact, that in this country we buy pumpkins, scrape all the flesh into the bin just to make a lantern?
