I use the free version. Just put 8.0 on my new vista machine with no issues

However I do know people that had problems with 8 when it first came out.

Think they've been resolved.
Never had any virus problems using the free versions though.

Think a lot of it depends on where you go on the net, what you download and how sensible you are!
