For me it started when we went up
We could very easily have stayed up that year and had we done so could have become an established prem club but we did not spend enough money on promotion and never really gave it a crack until it was too late. If we had bought Ashton in the summer rather than January then we would have got enough points to stay up IMHO.
The next error was Worthington's disasterous summer in the transfer market when we came down.We could have had our pick of the best player in the champ and had a decent squad (including the likes of Svenson and Jonson who would have been very good at this level) but he shipped out some good players and bought utter, utter cr*p.
The final nail was not sacking worthington soon enough. By the time they did it was too late. The squad was slowly eroded to the point that Grant inherited a sorry state of affairs. Grant was hopeles but I don't think he is in any way to blame for the current state of affairs.
