Presumably he's learnt about him from seeing him in trainun?

Sometimes (and he says this) we get players in, he sees them, and thinks "bloody hell, this kid's ace. Get him in the first team pronto." (eg Gibbs last year.)

In this case, he got him, saw him in trainun, and thought "oh sh*t. This kid's too raw to go anywhere near the first team. Oh well. He's useful to make up the numbers in the training games, I suppose..."
