I don't think footballers are "thick" as it happens ....

Well, I think some are thick, obviously, but I don't hold a generalised view of footballers as thick. I was playing devil's advocate, really - it's been stated on here before that some players might not want to come to Norfolk because it's not perceived as the kind of lively place that some moneyed men in their 20s might want to spend their time, and that bringing people in on loan might be a good way to show them that (as you say) Norfolk is actually a decent place to live.
